TaskHutch for product and engineering

Track work without sprints or story points

No sprints, no story points, no velocity charts. TaskHutch is for teams who noticed that the ceremony had started taking up more room than the shipping, and who would rather have four honest statuses and a board that says what's actually going on.

Triage bugs with fixed importance levels

Critical means production is down. Moderate, which is the default, means it's broken but there's a way round it. Because the definitions are fixed, nobody has to negotiate about priority — the words have already settled it.

Write specs in docs, linked to the task

Write the spec as a doc and link it from the task. Six months later, search will find you not just what you built but why you decided to build it that way, which is the part that never gets written down anywhere else.

Only get notified when it's about you

Mentions and assignments notify you, and nothing else does. A morning of deep work stays a morning of deep work, and the bell means something when it finally does go.

Connect the pull request to the task

Paste a PR URL, or copy the branch name TaskHutch offers and open the PR from it. The task then shows the PR’s state, its reviews and its checks — and if you want, moves itself: opened goes to In progress, merged goes to Done. Opt in per task; nothing happens to the rest.

Break the big piece into subtasks

Some work is too big for a checklist and too small for five separate cards. Subtasks give each part its own status and its own owner while the parent keeps them together, so a week’s work stays one thing on the board.

A focus timer, not a timesheet

There’s a timer in the corner of the dashboard: pick a length, start it, and it keeps running while you move around the app. It records nothing and reports to nobody — TaskHutch has no time tracking, on purpose.

Try a release checklist

A release is really just a task that's honest about how done it is. Tick the steps off — the count and the bar work exactly as they do in the product.
